What each result tells you
- Creatinine is the key number. It rises when the kidneys filter less.
- Urea also rises with dehydration or a high protein diet.
- Sodium and potassium matter for nerves, muscles and the heart.
- Uric acid can cause gout and kidney stones.
Why doctors work out eGFR

Who should get checked
- People with diabetes or high blood pressure, at least once a year.
- Anyone with swelling, foamy urine or a family history of kidney disease.
- People who use painkillers often.

What is normal creatinine?
Usually about 0.7 to 1.3 mg/dL in men and 0.6 to 1.1 mg/dL in women.
What creatinine level is dangerous?
There is no single number, because it depends on your age, size and usual level. A rising creatinine always needs a doctor. Use eGFR for a better picture.
Do I need to fast for an RFT?
Usually not, but follow your lab’s advice, especially if other tests are being done with it.
