Calorie calculator

Estimate how many calories you need each day to stay at your current weight, from your size, age and activity.

Height

Your result appears here as you type.

How it works

First, the Mifflin-St Jeor equation estimates your resting energy use. Then that number is multiplied by your activity level.

  • Men: 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age + 5.
  • Women: 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age − 161.

Using the number

Treat it as a starting point. Track your weight for a few weeks and adjust. Talk to a doctor or dietitian before a big change, and especially if you have diabetes, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Last checked 31 October 2026. This calculator gives an estimate for information. It is not a diagnosis or medical advice, so talk to a doctor about your result.

Still unsure? Send us the question and a person — not a bot — will answer it.

How many calories do I need a day?

It depends on your size, age, sex and activity. Many adults need somewhere around 1,800 to 2,500 kcal a day. Use the calculator for your own estimate.

What is BMR?

Basal metabolic rate is the energy your body uses at rest. This calculator shows a resting estimate as well as your daily total.
