What a CBC test shows
- Red cells carry oxygen, so low numbers point to anaemia.
- White cells fight infection, so they rise when you are ill.
- Platelets help blood clot, and they fall in dengue.

Reading the common patterns
- Low hemoglobin with low MCV: usually low iron, or thalassaemia trait.
- Low hemoglobin with high MCV: often low vitamin B12 or folate.
- High white cells with high neutrophils: often a bacterial infection.
- Low platelets with fever: rule out dengue, especially after the monsoon.
Do you need to fast?
No. A CBC does not need fasting unless your doctor is ordering other tests with it.

What is the CBC test used for?
It checks your general health and helps find anaemia, infection and some blood conditions.
Is CP the same as CBC?
Yes. In Pakistan, CP (complete picture) usually means the same test as a CBC.
What is a dangerous platelet count?
Bleeding risk rises as platelets fall, particularly below about 20,000. Very low counts need a doctor the same day, and doctors also look at the whole picture.
Can a CBC detect cancer?
It cannot diagnose cancer, but an unusual result can lead a doctor to order more tests.
