Ovulation calculator
Enter the first day of your last period and your usual cycle length to estimate when you ovulate and which days you are most fertile.
Your result appears here as you type.
How it works
Ovulation usually happens about 14 days before your next period. Sperm can survive for up to about five days, and an egg for about a day, so the fertile window runs from five days before ovulation to the day after.
When this is less reliable
Do not use this calculator as a way to avoid pregnancy.
- Your periods are irregular.
- You recently stopped hormonal contraception, gave birth or breastfed.
- You have a condition such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Still unsure? Send us the question and a person — not a bot — will answer it.
When am I most fertile?
In the five days before ovulation and on the day of ovulation. In a 28-day cycle, that is usually around days 9 to 14.
Can I use this for contraception?
No. Dates vary from cycle to cycle, so it is not a reliable way to avoid pregnancy.
When should we see a doctor about fertility?
Usually after a year of trying, or after six months if the woman is 35 or over. See a doctor sooner if periods are irregular or absent.
