- Being overweight.
- Kidney disease and some medicines.
High uric acid without symptoms
Many people with high levels never get gout, and doctors do not always treat a number alone. See a doctor for a sudden, painful, swollen joint, which is often the big toe.

What uric acid level causes gout?
The risk rises above about 6.8 mg/dL, but gout is possible at lower levels and many people with higher levels never get it.
Should I stop eating daal?
Not usually. Plant foods raise the risk far less than red meat, organ meat and sugary drinks.
Does drinking water help?
Yes, staying hydrated helps your kidneys clear uric acid.
