Waist to hip ratio calculator
Measure your waist and hips to see your ratio, a simple sign of where your body stores fat.
Your result appears here as you type.
How to measure
- Waist: midway between your lowest rib and the top of your hip bone.
- Hips: at the widest point.
- Stand straight, breathe out gently, and keep the tape flat.
What your ratio means
The World Health Organization links these levels to a substantially higher risk of metabolic problems such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

What is a healthy waist to hip ratio?
Below 0.85 for women and below 0.90 for men, by the WHO levels.
Why does it matter?
Fat around the waist is more closely linked to diabetes and heart disease than fat around the hips.
Is it better than BMI?
It adds different information, because it shows where fat sits. Doctors often look at both.
