LFT test: liver function test values
An LFT checks your liver through enzymes and proteins in your blood. Enter your results to see what stands out.
LFT report checker
Copy the numbers from your report. Fill in only what you have.
Your results appear here as you type.
For adults. The range printed on your report comes first, because labs differ. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
What each result tells you
- SGPT (ALT) and SGOT (AST) rise when liver cells are irritated.
- Bilirubin rises in jaundice.
- ALP and GGT rise with bile duct problems.
- Albumin shows how well the liver makes protein over time.
Common causes of raised results
- Fatty liver, which is often linked to weight and diabetes.
- Hepatitis B or C, so testing is worthwhile if yours is raised.
- Some medicines, especially painkillers taken in large amounts.
- Alcohol.
What to do with a raised result
A small rise is common and often settles. Do not stop a prescribed medicine by yourself. Your doctor may repeat the test and check for hepatitis or fatty liver.

What is the normal range for bilirubin?
Total bilirubin is usually about 0.1 to 1.2 mg/dL in adults.
Do I need to fast for an LFT?
Some labs ask for a fast of a few hours. Check with yours.
Can LFT detect hepatitis?
It can suggest liver inflammation, but hepatitis needs its own blood tests.
